Between Two Lakes

Hey all,

I’ve been struggling to find the right words since hearing the news. Studio 301 was one of the first venues that gave this band a chance, and that wouldn’t have been possible without Greg. He welcomed everyone with open arms, and hearing about his passing truly struck a chord with me.

His passing also happened to fall on my mom’s birthday which is already a difficult day for me, as she passed away ten years ago. Maybe that’s part of why I’ve been so hesitant to say anything. I’ve seen people grieve my mom in ways that didn’t feel genuine, and I don’t want to come across as though I was closer with Greg than I was.

That said, I still want to honor the kindness he showed me and my band. I didn’t always agree with Greg’s political views, and I wish I had been more upfront about that when he kept inviting us to perform again. It’s part of why we didn’t return to play there, along with the fact that our music didn’t quite fit under the heavy metal umbrella that the venue often celebrated, though many of my friends who performed there absolutely loved the energy and community.

Even so, Greg was always kind to me and Between Two Lakes. Despite us not performing there again, he continued to like our posts and support our work from afar. That was just the kind of person Greg was. He was supportive, generous, and passionate about music and the people who made it.

Greg not only created a space for musicians but was a talented musician himself. I’ll never forget performing alongside him at Mad Farm Moto a couple of years ago and witnessing his talent firsthand.
