Eight years ago today, the Sun Prairie community experienced a tragedy that forever changed our city.

We remember Fire Captain Cory Barr, who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the downtown explosion on July 10, 2018. We also honor the many first responders, neighbors, business owners, and community members whose lives were forever impacted by that day.

In the face of unimaginable loss, Sun Prairie showed extraordinary resilience, compassion, and strength. We came together to support one another, rebuild, and ensure Captain Barr’s legacy of service and selflessness would never be forgotten.
Today, we pause to reflect on the lives changed by this tragedy and extend our deepest gratitude to the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and all who continue to answer the call to serve our communities every day.

May we continue to honor Captain Cory Barr’s memory by looking out for one another and carrying forward the spirit of courage and community that defines Sun Prairie.

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy delicious ice cream, live music, and the opportunity to celebrate the rich history that makes our communities so special. Events like this bring neighbors together, support our local museums, and remind us of the importance of preserving Wisconsin’s heritage for future generations.

I always appreciate the chance to visit with residents, hear what’s on your mind, and enjoy the incredible community spirit that makes Senate District 16 such a great place to call home.
