Marvin Hagler fought 50 times before anyone gave him a title shot, earning less than fifty dollars a fight on some of those nights. On the worst of them, he slept in the gym because there was nowhere else to go.

Not struggling toward something. Just surviving it.

That is where the real Hagler was built, not in the silence of an empty gym with nothing to show for any of it yet. Frederick Douglass said it best: “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” Hagler lived that before he ever knew he’d be remembered for it.

When people talk about how hard he was to hurt, they’re usually thinking about his chin. But his toughness didn’t come from genetics. It came from years of having almost nothing and choosing to show up anyway.

🥊 Tim Bradley has questioned Shakur Stevenson after Devin Haney reportedly agreed to the 144-pound catchweight that Shakur had been asking for.

According to Bradley, Haney accepted the terms and appeared eager to make the fight, but negotiations seem to have gone quiet afterward. Bradley suggested Haney is currently doing more to push the matchup forward and said the silence from Shakur raises questions.

Meanwhile, Haney still faces pressure from the WBO to fulfill a mandatory title defense against Keyshawn Davis, which could complicate plans for a Haney-Stevenson showdown if a deal isn't finalized soon.

Though Oscar De La Hoya’s 1999 disappointing and controversial points loss to Felix Trinidad fell below expectation, the “Golden Boy’s” clash with Shane Mosley in 2000 exceeded it.

Sixteen years before, as school boys, the two engaged in the first of many amateur rounds they shared. De La Hoya, the pre-fight favourite edged ahead in the first half before Shane, switching stance and utilising his jab and switching stance, took control in the second half. “The bad memories of the Trinidad fight have been erased, this has been a war,” Jim Lampley yelled in the last round as De La Hoya took a booming right hand.

Indeed it had, and this time there would be no debate that the right man won as “Sugar Shane” took the decision.
