Preventing older adult falls in Wisconsin

We love our furry friends! But sometimes they can put as at risk of a fall. To avoid this, think PAWS:
▪ Practice balance and strength exercises to stay steady on your feet.
▪ Always be aware of your surroundings—know where your pets are!
▪ Wipe up spills by water and food dishes immediately.
▪ Shine bright! Put a bright-colored collar or bell on your pet.

Whether you're taking a road trip, visiting family, or exploring somewhere new, a little planning can go a long way in keeping us on our feet while traveling.
Some things to think about:
▪ Wear supportive, non-slip shoes.
▪ Stay hydrated throughout your trip.
▪ Take your time on unfamiliar stairs, sidewalks, and uneven surfaces.
▪ Bring your medications and take them as directed.
▪ Turn on lights or use a flashlight when walking at night (pro tip: pack a nightlight to bring with!).
With a few simple precautions, we can enjoy our adventures while staying active, confident, and independent.

- Wear supportive, non-slip footwear
- Protect your eyes and watch for glare
- Stay aware of obstacles and uneven ground
