As we build our spring and summer programs, we want to hear from you! Over the next few days, we'll post a series of questions to help us talk together about what we love (and don't love) about eating healthy. These discussions will help guide our programming - so the more responses, the merrier!

So many of our program participants have asked for a class on food preservation! Purdue Extension is offering an online class series that covers the whole gamut of preservation methods. Definitely worth checking out if you want to take advantage of bulk buying fresh foods when they're on sale or in season! And you can do it all in your PJs!

Purdue Extension-Jefferson County's annual wreath-making event is coming soon! Like last year, proceeds from this event will support Junior Master Gardener classes for all MCS third graders. If you're buying a live Christmas tree or doing some yard work, please drop your evergreen trimmings behind the Community Building at the fairgrounds to support this event. Holly boughs, interesting grasses, pinecones, and other cool plant materials are also welcome. The fairgrounds aren't always open this time of year, so call 812-265-8919 to schedule drop off.

This is such a fun and festive evening! Not only do you get to learn to make your own wreath and bring it home for your front door, but if you donate during the event, proceeds will go to supplies for the Junior Master Gardener program! This program is a joint effort between MCGP and Purdue Extension-Jefferson County, and it educates ALL MCS_Indiana third graders in basic gardening and nutrition skills every year. That means that if we keep this program going into the future, eventually every kid who comes out of MCS will know how to garden and choose healthy foods! π²ππ±
The Jefferson and Switzerland County Master Gardener Association invites you to join us for our annual "Holiday Wreath Making Workshop" on Tuesday, December 2, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jefferson County 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building.
Please RSVP by calling (812) 265-8919 or emailing [email protected].
There is no charge for the Workshop; however, free-will donations are appreciated. Donations in excess of material costs will help fund local programs, such as Junior Master Gardener at schools in cooperation with Madison Community Grocery Project.

Instead of taking their Thanksgiving break, Growing Minds Farm Stop is staying open EXTRA to help make sure you have what you need this week! Consider a local Thanksgiving this year. There is plenty of meat, pumpkin, winter squash, sweet potatoes, potatoes, and other produce to grace your table, plus dried flower bouquets. Fresh, local food always tastes better, and it feels so good to give thanks for farmers you know!

What a fun evening to build community with our neighbors and good food friends! Aside from a fabulous feast (the meat and produce were almost 100% local!), we learned so much from Gabby Hammersley and Cara Davis Fox. And the money raised from the event pushed us over the halfway mark toward our $17,000 fundraising goal! You can still support our fundraiser to sponsor a discount for low-income shoppers at the Growing Minds Farm Stop using the link in the comments. We are so grateful for all of our good food friends, and we are looking forward to a delicious, beautiful Thanksgiving thanks to all the tricks Gabby and Cara taught us!
