Who are the Goose Island Ramblers and how do they redefine American folk music? In answering this question, Jim Leary makes us reconsider fundamental assumptions about folk music in the modern world, what such music sounds like, and what constitutes "old time." He also introduces us to an entirely new genre of American folk music that he calls "polkabilly"—not that the genre is something new or modern.
