Planning a getaway to Madison? Make a weekend out of it! With so many great places to stay, it is hard to go wrong.

Did you know that the Brady Inn's property was owned by at least six women since 1850? In a time when women were not usually property holders, the land and eventually the main cottage was either inherited or bought and sold largely between women!

Want to go down the rabbit hole? Along Second Street, there were several hundred acres of land owned by the Saffold family. In fact, the road was supposedly called Saffold Street in 1885. Adam G. Saffold ("Judge Saffold") died in 1850 leaving the land to Ann (his wife) and two children (Anna and William). Anna sold the property twice. First to her son, who sold it back to her, and then to Virginia Sherril. Louise Middlebrooks bought it in 1890, and her son, Percy, inherited it. In 1919, he sold it to Patrick Brady whose daughter, Sara "Sadie" Brady, lived in the house until she died in 1974. The house then fell under the ownership of Sara J. Sonenberg who sold to Bernice Johnson in 1981. The Brady Inn, named after Sara Brady, was operating as such when it was purchased in 2006 by the current owners.
