You may have already heard about Make History Madison - an organization working to help residents tell the local history of the places and spaces in Madison that mean something to them - especially as we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Coming up on June 10, we'll dive into the history of a space that is personal to all of us - your home! In this workshop, participants will find out how to get started researching the history of their homes.
For big-picture context, historian Angela Richardson will lead participants through a step-by-step process to become house history detectives! Using houses in nearby neighborhoods as examples, she’ll introduce online tools and demonstrate techniques for discovering facts about your own house.
Hoping to find old photos of your house and its prior inhabitants? Angela will also present search methods you can try when seeking visual records of your house and former residents. Registration is requested and you can sign up online at madpl.org/america250
Thanks to Make History Madison - a Whoseland? Project - and the East Side History Club for their partnership on this event!

Don't forget to get your tickets for the Book Club Cafe featuring bestselling author Paula McLain!
This annual Friends of the Madison Public Library fundraiser is an ode to book clubs, reading, and libraries, where book groups can come together and hear from an amazing author while enjoying light refreshments and picking up a complementary Book Club Favorites booklet. This little gem includes personal recommendations from local book clubs, library staff, and other local readers sharing their favorite books of the year, as well as the titles that got them talking the most! It's basically a curated guide for starting your own book club!
Tickets for Book Club Cafe are $25 and pre-registration will close next week on Wed, June 3. Then we'll gather together on Tues, June 9 to enjoy McLain's talk at Central Library from 7-9pm. You won't want to miss it! Visit madpl.org/bookclubcafe to learn more and register to attend.
