Yeah, it’s pretty dark out here. I see that. Still, I see rays of light on the horizon. As I peek, those rays peek back at me, though fleeting - elusive. They wink at me and fill my eyes like rays of hope.

Humanity. Within those rays of hope I see humanity. Bare. Raw. Not the humanity cloaked in political ideologies or religious affiliations. Not humanity donning tribalism or some other divisive affiliation. No. It’s humanity stripped down and bare.

It’s the humanity that’s unflinchingly compelled to save the life of a stranger in need. It’s the humanity that asks to assist the homeless woman pushing her cart up that hill. It’s the good morning, how are you, with humanizing eye contact and an earnest desire for the answer. It’s the shared experience of touching music evoking a shared emotional experience from all present. It’s…you. It’s me. Unhinged. Unattached. Untethered to the boxes we’ve submitted to for a seemingly safer confinement.

Unsubdued, I see you. In those moments in which we laugh together without knowing our affiliations. In those moments in which we cry together, having human compassion, without a care for which way the ideological winds blow. That. That’s the light I see piercing through the darkness. If, indeed, the Spirit of The Most High lives within us, that Spirit must be present within such moments.

Indeed, it’s dark out here. However, I still see rays of light on the horizon. I still see you. Through the fog of divisiveness, I see you.
