Kelda Roys
Candidate for WI Governor, State Senator, attorney, small business owner, progressive Democratic leader, mama/stepmama of 5!
I wanted to hop on here and explain what’s been going on in the Wisconsin Capitol and why we’ve been talking so much about this latest budget deal.
This deal is the height of Republican fiscal irresponsibility. We should be using this moment to lower costs for working families, fully fund our public schools, and protect Wisconsin from Trump, not writing checks against money we may never actually have.

When my parents decided to settle in rural Taylor County, and later Dane County, they were drawn by the promise of Wisconsin’s world-class public education. I was fortunate to receive that education, which helped me become who I am today.
I had so many incredible teachers growing up – I was a good student and loved learning. But it was truly my music teachers who kept me engaged. Mr. Ziegler, Ms. Dhoore-Becker, and Ms. Beilke-Skoug. I took orchestra (violin) and band (saxophone/percussion), and I played the piano and sang in concert choir and show choir. Yes, there are videos, and no, you can’t see them. Music is still a big part of my life today!
It takes a special person to spend their life listening to 11-year-olds try to play wind instruments, and those teachers deserve far more than a post on social media. In my opinion, music, art, theater, and sports are the places where kids feel a sense of belonging – where we come together. That’s what public schools are all about.
Funding our schools is not about numbers on a spreadsheet. It’s about giving children the freedom to learn, discover, and thrive with the help of teachers who are passionate about their futures. It’s about making school joyful and helping kids from all walks of life learn to work and solve problems together. All kids deserve what I got as a kid in rural Wisconsin – the best public education in the country.

People are commuting farther to work because it’s hard to find affordable housing. We understand that roads are infrastructure that we need to invest in so our economy can function, and child care is just as fundamental. We should treat child care like the infrastructure it is.
As governor, I’ll strengthen Wisconsin’s caregiving infrastructure so that kids get the great start they deserve and parents are able to work and support their families. That’s how to build a strong economy that works for all of us, and a Wisconsin where everyone has the freedom to thrive.

People are eager to see our democracy delivering transformative change for our lives. As governor, I will work hard to protect you from the chaos from the Trump regime. That starts with KeldaCare, which would allow anyone in Wisconsin to buy into the state health insurance plan. My plan is built for this moment and will deliver meaningful change to lower the cost of healthcare for Wisconsinites.
Around the state, I will continue to work to deliver transformative progress and build durable power by ensuring everyone has the freedom to thrive.
