On July 20, 1969, the NASA Apollo program made history when the Apollo 11 Lunar Module landed on the Moon. Within hours of landing, Neil Armstrong, followed closely by Buzz Aldrin, became the first two humans to set foot on the surface.

The images of astronauts on the Moon signaled a profound achievement for the nation and the world. Some of the images became the inspiration for memorabilia like the lunch box and thermos shown above.

Manufactured in 1969, the steel lunch box was made to take advantage of the excitement over the moon landing. The exterior features images from the Apollo 11 mission, including Neil Armstrong’s first step onto the lunar surface and the command module’s splashdown. The plastic and glass thermos bottle features an astronaut saluting the American flag, as well as other colorful scenes of the landing.

July 20, 1969, the world witnessed one of the singular most important achievements in history - humans walking on the moon. Neil, Michael and I were proud to represent America as we took those giant leaps for mankind. It was a brilliant moment for the world and one of America’s finest hours.
