After all these years and still amazes me.

This , we’re celebrating the lives and work of individuals that have changed our world as engineers, architects and more importantly, as human beings. Today, we recognize and honor the life of Hattie Scott Peterson.

She is believed to have been the first Black woman to earn a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. A 1946 graduate of Howard University, Peterson began working as a survey and cartographic engineer for the in Sacramento, CA in 1947.

In Sacramento, she joined the local   in 1954, where she was the first woman engineer and encouraged engineering as a profession for women. Today, the Sacramento chapter of USACE honors her legacy with the annual Hattie Peterson Inspirational Award.
