A VLF (Very Low Frequency) Cable Diagnosis Tester is a specialized instrument used for testing and diagnosing high-voltage cables. These cables are commonly used in electrical power transmission and distribution systems. VLF testing involves applying a voltage at a frequency typically ranging from 0.01 Hz to 1 Hz, which is significantly lower than the frequency used in standard power systems (50 Hz or 60 Hz).

This low frequency allows for more efficient testing while minimizing the risk of damaging the cable insulation. By measuring the cable's response to this voltage, the tester can assess the condition of the cable insulation. It can detect potential faults such as insulation deterioration, moisture ingress, and partial discharge within the cable.
