My Story

I always knew I wanted to help people somehow, I just wasn't always sure HOW. It’s been quite the journey figuring out that how. Some of it soul searching, most of it researching, and every single second of it being awkward, because hey, that’s me.

You would think that being debilitatingly awkward would be a detriment when you specialize in bikini waxing, and I’m sure it should be. Driven by the fear of being one of the many waxing horror stories that I’ve heard, I managed to get really good at them. Whoever said fear is a bad motivator never had to apply hot wax to another humans private region with precision and dexterity, then rip it off violently, while somehow remaining likable... Thankfully, my clients find my awkwardness endearing without thinking me any less professional for it.

But, back to the journey that has led me here, running my own small business in Manassas Virginia. If someone had told me 15 years ago that I would be here, doing what I do, I’d have laughed in their face. Loudly, and obnoxiously.

I was finishing up my degree in psychology because I was going to be a counselor. Then I met my husband who turned out to be a very handsome monkey wrench in my 5 and 10 year plan. Without going into too much detail, being a counselor was out and I had no idea what to do. So I decided to do the family thing, and holy moly, that was a paradigm shift of epic proportions. Turns out, I’m a crap stay at home mom. I’m a pretty awesome working mom, but yikes figuring that out wasn’t pretty. We all survived though, which is what matters.

I started doing makeup for friends for special events, then looked into doing it professionally since it has flexible hours. Perfect for a new mom. However, me being me I wanted to have a license to do it properly and my options were cosmetology or esthetician. I knew I didn’t want to do hair, but I also had no idea what an esthetician was. So I went to a spa to meet one because thanks to google, I learned that’s their natural habitat.
