Parkside Middle School's FTC Robotics Team, the Knyte Bytes, wrapped up an impressive inaugural season filled with competition success, community outreach, and meaningful learning experiences.

Under the leadership of Robotics Coach Ms. Edgar, the team launched this year thanks to a DOE grant that provided funding for a brand-new robotics kit. Although the kit arrived later than expected, leaving students with only 18 days to build and program their robot before their first competition, the team rose to the challenge with determination and perseverance.

Their hard work paid off at their first competition in Bedford, where the rookie team earned the Judge's Choice Award. They continued to improve throughout the season, placing 12th out of 28 teams at their second competition and winning 2 of their 5 matches—an impressive accomplishment for a first-year team.

The Knyte Bytes finished their season strong at the Spring Scramble offseason event, earning 3rd place overall and bringing home another trophy.

Beyond competitions, Ms. Edgar emphasized the importance of community engagement and outreach. Team members showcased their robot at the School Connect event and participated in a schoolwide Pride celebration at Parkside, where each student was recognized by school administration and presented with a trophy commemorating the team's Judge's Choice Award.

The team was also invited to demonstrate their robot at the City Year Gala, where students shared their experiences and discussed their robot with members of the School Board, Superintendent Chmiel, Governor Ayotte, and U.S. Representative Chris Pappas.

In addition to their robotics accomplishments, the Knyte Bytes partnered with Team 501, the Powerknights from West High School, to support veterans and families in need during the holiday season. Together, the teams helped provide Christmas dinners to community members, with the Knyte Bytes collecting enough food for five complete dinners.

The team's involvement in robotics will continue this summer, as several members will join the Powerknights in partnering with MPAL to help run a Robotics Week program using XRP robots.

Ms. Edgar shared how proud she is of everything the team has accomplished during its first year. From earning awards and trophies to serving the community and representing Parkside at high-profile events, the Knyte Bytes have demonstrated resilience, teamwork, leadership, and a passion for learning.

Congratulations to Ms. Edgar and the Knyte Bytes on an outstanding rookie season. The future is bright for this talented group of student innovators! 🤖🏆
