Did you know that "Category 5" currently describes a storm with 157 mph winds... AND a storm with 212 mph winds? 🤔 Every other category has a 20-mph window, but Cat 5 has no ceiling. It’s "open-ended.” 😦
🌀 In the last decade alone, we’ve already seen 10 storms that would qualify as "Category 6" (185+ mph).
That is why the 157mph+ limit might be a thing of the past. ⏪
👉🏻 Why do we care? Recognizing a new ‘Category 6’ classification would help officials plan for the true scale of future impacts, ensuring people understand their risks and take proactive measures equivalent to that threat.
