Be careful what you wish for when you raise readers. You will get kids who follow along word for word, notice every time you skip a line to speed up bedtime, and will absolutely call you out mid-sentence with zero hesitation. I created this. I own it. Fergus would probably say something kind and patient about the whole situation. I am working on channeling that energy.

I had a whole list of things I was never going to say as a parent. "Because I said so" was at the very top of that list. I was going to explain everything. Reason through everything. Be the calm, logical, endlessly patient parent who never resorted to that phrase. And then I had kids. And today I said it. And it worked immediately. I regret nothing. Not one single thing. 😂
