There was a time when Italian immigrants didn't just move to a city.

They moved to a specific block,
a specific parish,
a specific few square miles where everyone spoke the same dialect and knew each other's grandparents.

I grew up on the Northside of Syracuse, surrounded by families who had made the same journey from the same corners of Italy.

The bakery, the church, the neighbors.

It all felt like a small village transplanted to upstate New York.
