I created and shared this video 5 years ago in 2018 back when hardly anyone was talking about Dinner Table Syndrome (DTS) on social media. It was one of my first videos to be reshared thousands of times. DTS is something I have experienced personally and also something I saw my students experience as well and so I felt the need to raise awareness about it via this video.

Now so many accounts have begun to use their platforms to raise awareness about Dinner Table Syndrome. I’m glad to see joined efforts to educate the masses. 🤟🏼

Please take time to watch this video and share it with others. Often times, hearing family members might not realize how inaccessible these gatherings are for their deaf/hoh relatives. A million conversations happening at once across the dinner table... it’s impossible to keep up! It can be an incredibly stressful and anxious time of year.

So be mindful as you gather this holiday season with your deaf/hard of hearing family member(s). Do your best to interact and be inclusive.🫶🏼

Transcript of index cards: “Never mind... Don’t worry about it... It’s not important... I’ll tell you later... For deaf and hard of hearing individuals, these phrases have power. Power to isolate, degrade, segregate, and destroy. Be mindful this holiday season as you gather with friends and family. Realize that many deaf/hard of hearing dread the holidays due to communication barriers. What can you do to help your loved ones feel included? #DeafAwareness #InclusionMatters #BeMindful #AccessibleHolidays @adventuresindeafed”]
