I opened this our Kickstarter page this morning and two goals jumped out at me: ⚡️3,000 backers. $1,000,000 pledged⚡️
Both feel within reach, and I love a good goal. I set them with my kids. I set them with the soccer teams I coach (before every game we pick a number of shots we want to take). So I am putting these two out into the universe too, even with the clock running. This closes Friday. 🚨If you are using SSD drives this message is for you.
SSDs are incredible working drives. Fast. Small. "Reliable." But they are NOT great long term archive drives.
Unlike old spinning hard drives, SSDs store your files using tiny electrical charges. If they sit unplugged too long, those charges slowly fade. Heat makes it even worse. Leave one in a hot car or near a sunny window and you’re speeding up the problem fast.
So if you’ve got SSDs sitting forgotten in a drawer somewhere, go grab them. Plug them in. Move some files around. Let the drive refresh itself. Use it for a couple hrs.
And going forward? Treat SSDs like working drives, not storage.
Show them some love… or they are not going to love you back.
