Nobody Is Coming (And That's Actually Good News)
For years, I believed what most music creators are taught to believe.
Write great music.
Build a catalog.
Get it into libraries.
Find an agent.
Wait for opportunities.
And sometimes opportunities did come.
But eventually I noticed something.
The composers who consistently found work weren't necessarily the most talented. They weren't always the most connected. They weren't always represented by the biggest companies.
What they had was a process.
They knew who hired music.
They knew who made the decisions.
They knew how to build relationships.
They knew how to stay visible.
Most importantly, they weren't waiting for somebody else to create opportunities on their behalf.
This isn't an argument against libraries, publishers, or agents. They all have a place.
The problem is when they become your entire business strategy.
If your career depends entirely on somebody else opening a door for you, you're giving away a tremendous amount of control over your future.
That realization changed everything for me.
Instead of asking, "Who will pitch my music?" I started asking, "Who actually buys music, and how can I reach them?"
That question led me into production companies, agencies, documentary producers, editors, creative directors, game developers, sports producers, and dozens of other buyers I hadn't previously considered.
The result wasn't instant success.
It was something much more valuable.
A repeatable system.
The good news is that nobody is coming.
Because once you understand that, you stop waiting.
And when you stop waiting, your career starts moving again.
That's one of the core ideas behind Find Music Work.
Not finding someone to save your career.
Learning how to build it yourself.

A good first email helps.
But it’s rarely what gets you the work.
Even if you've never used anything we’ve built, this will help.
Here’s a simple outreach email you can use right away:
Hi {First Name},
I really enjoyed your team’s work on {Project}. The way you handled {specific detail, such as: pacing, tone, humor, etc.} really stood out.
I’m a {PICK ONE: composer/producer, singer-songwriter, sound designer} working across a range of styles, always focused on supporting story and emotion.
Here’s a short reel (3 tracks): {Link with 3 tracks only – make sure the tracks have meta data}
If you’re ever looking for custom {music / sound design} or one-stop cleared tracks, I’d love to be on your radar.
Thanks for the inspiring work,
{Your Name}

Most people send something like this once, and stop.
But most work doesn’t come from the first message.
It comes from consistent, thoughtful follow-up.
If you want to turn this into a simple process (instead of rewriting emails every time), that's one of the tasks our Outreach Assistant is built for.
The Assistant gives you a repeatable 5-step email sequence, not just a one-off template, you can reuse and adapt for every outreach campaign, to be sent at 21 to 30 day intervals, (which you can change/personalize). The tone highlights narrative depth, emotional storytelling, and versatility across genres, which is exactly what producers and directors look for when evaluating a composer.
We’ve tailored the messaging for 18 different creator types, like editors, producers, supervisors, across film, sports, ads, TV/cable/streaming, games, animation and many more. So whatever lane you’re targeting, it’s already built in.
It helps to think of your messaging in simple sequences:
• A first intro
• A light follow-up
• A value add (offering a demo)
• A reminder you’re available
• A soft ask for a quick call
Spaced out over time, this builds familiarity without being pushy.
That’s really the idea behind how we approach outreach at Find Music Work, not just what to say, when to say it and who to say it to, but how to stay visible in a way that feels natural.
If you’re curious how that looks in practice, quick overview here:https://findmusicwork.com/public/FMW-OutreachAssistant
But even without that, just improving your follow-up alone can make a noticeable difference.

You can land a great project...
deliver strong work...
maybe even build a solid relationship.....and then things go quiet again.
Not because you're not good.
Not because there isn't demand.
But because consistency in this space rarely comes from one-off wins. It comes from staying visible to the right people over time.
The problem:
Most composers, producers, singer/songwriters, and sound designers aren't short on ability, they're short on repeatable access.
Projects come in waves.
Contacts go cold.
Outreach becomes confusing, tedious, inconsistent.
Even strong momentum is hard to maintain.
Our solution:
Find Music Work is built around making your outreach - and your opportunities - more consistent:
- Ongoing access to 12,000+ active hiring decision-makers across 18 categories
- A steady flow of real-world projects you can align your work to
- Expert reviews, focused on your strengths, to sharpen your pitches and your positioning
- Client matching
- Built-in outreach tools that keep you visible without constant manual follow-up
- Structured systems that turn "random reach-outs" into something repeatable
So instead of starting from scratch every time things slow down, you're always in motion, always in the conversation about whose music to use.
Conclusion:
Consistency doesn't come from chasing more. It comes from having a system that keeps you connected to the right people, regularly.
That's the gap we're focused on closing.

Why Certain Tracks Are More Sync-Ready (and 7 Ways to Optimize Yours)
Sync-ready music isn’t always about sounding “better”, sometimes it’s about being easier to say yes to.
Music supervisors, editors, producers, and brand teams are under constant time pressure.
When they audition music, they are listening for function, clarity, and flexibility just as much as emotion or style. The tracks that win placements consistently share a set of practical traits.
Pro Tips are drawn directly from real-world placements and reviewer insights, designed to help you understand why certain tracks convert and how you can apply the same thinking to your own catalog.
