Haven’t gotten very far on this re-knit so I decided to take it along with me while my daughter is in (minor) surgery today.

Whoops! I kind of vanished from IG for a month. Truth me told, there’s just been a lot going on and I was also dealing with a ton of pain in my thumbs that came out of nowhere. But I made this adorable carrot friend the other night and I’ll be releasing the pattern for him in a day or two. My five year old freaked when he saw it and he’s been carrying it around the whole day. 🥕🐰

Let’s chat. You might recognize these socks. Nope, I’m not making a second pair. I ripped my first pair completely out and I’m starting again. I THOUGHT these fit when I finished them. Then I quickly realized they were huge. Not in length, but in width. I’ve knit several pairs of socks up to this point and really assumed that since I was using the same needle size and same yarn weight that I’ve used in the past that I could just pick my size from this designer and go.
🚫 WRONG ❗️🚫
According to my measurements for this designer I should have chosen the size large. I was trying to figure out how these could have gone so sideways when the obvious dawned on me. Gauge. So I checked these socks AND all previous socks. My gauge was 8.5 stitches per inch with a US 1 needle. Then I checked hers: 9.5 stitches per inch. 🤦🏽♀️
Knitting tighter isn’t going to work for me. I then figured out that she must be calculating her cast on number by multiplying her gauge x 7.5 inches, which would make me a large in her gauge. So I calculated MY gauge by 7.5 inches and I come out to a size medium, the cast on stitches are a close match to all my other socks, and these are looking LOADS better.
So my point is: don’t blindly think that just because a designer is using the same needle size as you have used many times before with the same size yarn that you’ve used before that the sizing matches. Make yourself a note as to what your stitches per inch are in all other projects in that yarn and needle size so that you don’t find yourself ripping out fully finished socks 🧦 and re-knitting them 🫠😂
Honestly though - this was a really great learning experience and I’m not mad about having to knit these again.

Two squares and a border. That’s all this blanket has needed to be finished. Today is the day! 🖤
