Graduation may have been yesterday, but we are still celebrating our finance graduates!

Today, we celebrate finance (and accounting) graduate Bennett Ragan! Bennett was a joy to have in class, and he took advantage of several experiential learning opportunities while a student.

Bennett is graduating with two degrees (finance and accounting), his Bloomberg certification, AND a passing score on FINRA’s Securities Industries Essentials exam. After graduation, Bennett plans to return to the Dickson area and pursue a career in the financial sector. He will be one heck of an asset for his future employer!

Bennett was influenced by multiple CBGA faculty members. He describes, “I cannot choose just one. Each professor influenced me in their own way. Professors Hatch, Cole, Moore, Haddad, Gullett, Baker, and Le, along with Mr. Clark, all brought something unique to my education. Together, they challenged me, supported me, and shaped the way I think about finance and accounting. I am a better student and professional because of all of them.”

Thank you, Bennett, for everything you gave to our finance program. We are better for knowing you, and you will be missed in our classrooms. We can’t wait to see you succeed!

Today we celebrate Hannah Mays, a Spring 2026 finance graduate! Hannah joined UTM as a transfer student, and we welcomed her with open arms. She began looking for opportunities to grow immediately, and that search led her to a future career in banking!

Hannah is a Chi Omega sister as well as an active member of our finance program. Hannah holds herself to a high standard, and she is on a constant search for knowledge to learn more about finance. Her intelligence and her curiosity combined make her an impressive young woman! She is honest, sincere, and hard-working, and we know Hannah will be an asset in her future role – she will be a loan assistant at Community Bank in Fairview, Tennessee!

Hannah credits much of her success to Mr. John Clark’s influence. She describes her relationship with Mr. Clark by saying, “Mr. Clark has been extremely influential during my time at UTM. He helped me in so many ways during the classes that I took with him and even helped me find a job after graduation. He is such a role model to me because of the way that he cares for his students and our university.”

Thank you, Hannah, for everything you gave to UTM. Your Skyhawk era may be closing, but your journey is just beginning. We can't wait to see you soar even higher at Community Bank!

🧡Financial Literacy Friday🧡
_____________

Today’s tip comes from rising senior finance major Cara Wyrick!

Managing spending habits is a huge part of financial literacy. The average American spends $282 each month on mindless spending. That’s $3,384 each year! And, 44% of impulse buyers report feeling regret for their unplanned purchases.

The double it mindset can completely transform how you spend. The basic principle is double the cost of something in your head. If you’d still buy it at the higher price, go ahead and purchase! If not, it might be an impulse buy. You learn to control your spending on what doesn't matter and shift your financial habits when you give yourself a moment to stop and think about the purchase.

Why should you think about your spending habits? Making a change to spend smarter can bring you:
✔️Clarity – Impulse purchases disappear or decline.
✔️Priorities – You naturally redirect money toward things with lasting value.
✔️Savings – Better spending decisions stack up fast. Small habit changes can create big financial breathing room.
✔️Freedom – Spending with intent means less stress, less debt, and more options for your future self!

So, the next time to want to purchase something, take the double it mindset and see how that changes your choices!

Graduation is just around the corner, and today we celebrate graduating finance major Austin Dunagan! Austin has a special place in all our hearts, and we are so sad to see him go…but we are so proud of all he has yet to accomplish, too!

Austin was able to combine his love for financial markets, healthcare, and agriculture into his UT Martin experience. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, a pre-professional student preparing for dental school, and a finance major…ALL at the same time! After graduation, Austin will attend dental school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. We are so proud of him!

When reflecting on his time as a student, Austin was blessed to be positively influenced by many faculty members – “I had a great experience with every professor I encountered so there is no way to choose. Each professor challenged me to approach finance from a unique perspective, and all of them were very supportive during my time at UTM.”

Thank you, Austin, for everything you gave to UTM. Your Skyhawk era may be closing, but your journey is just beginning. We can't wait to see you soar even higher as you begin dental school this fall!

Today, we celebrate Kamryn Bridges as she graduates this semester with her finance degree! Kamryn has consistently engaged with industry through her time at UTM, completing multiple internships, including one at International Paper in Memphis!

Kamryn is a joy to have in the classroom. She always has her eyes on the future, and she has worked hard to build connections for after graduation. 🧡Financial Literacy Friday🧡
_____________
Today’s tip comes to you courtesy of junior finance (and accounting) major Lexie Stevens!

Did you know…

Your student ID may be one of the most underutilized financial tools you have. College spending totaled nearly $90 BILLION in recent years, and the average student spends almost $1,400 on supplies alone…so knowing how to leverage your student discounts is crucial to your budget!

And, using discounts is the norm! 95% of students use discounts to manage costs, and you can score discounts on subscriptions like Hulu, Spotify, Amazon just by using your student email. Platforms like UNiDAYS, Student Beans, and ID.me aggregate hundreds of verified students deal in one place.

Financial stress is one of the leading concerns among college students today. 77% of students report they have temporarily run out of money at some point during the academic year. Taking a few minutes to set up student discounts on the services you already use is one of the simplest steps toward stretching your budget further.

Follow along for more financial literacy tips every Friday!
