It’s been a busy couple weeks around here! The garden is fully planted and tonight we had our first harvest! Collard greens, jalapeño peppers and a small cherry tomato! All the rain has everything growing like crazy. Even Jessie came out to join the fun in the garden.

Rusty & Smokey

We added these two spunky siblings to our herd.

Rusty is a “buck” meaning he will help grow our herd when he gets bigger. He’s got a beautiful rusty red brown coat.

Smokey is part Pygmy meaning she won’t get too much bigger. We loved the color of her coat with the cool gray tones and some copper highlights.

These two are still a little skittish but I’m sure they will warm up over time.

We added a new type of bird to our flock any guess what it is? This is the last set of them we will have a total of 8 of them in our flock.

Who knew that the top of a hay bail was the best place to lay eggs. Just one of the few places the chickens like to lay.

We always have eggs available to purchase for eating or hatching.

What started as a simple dream and 4 baby chicks has grown into something much bigger than we ever imagined. Today, our homestead is home to over 100 chickens, turkeys, guinea, and goats. We have had growing projects, hard work, family memories, and a whole lot of learning along the way.

Meet Nibbles, Dorthy and Baby Mama… she fits the bill so yes she does need three names.
Dorthy joined our herd a couple months ago. She is Betty Whites mama. In short couple months baby Mama will be kidding again meaning she’s going to have babies. This will be our first experience with a goat kidding we are very excited to experience this.
This is her giving us the side eye as we were playing in the playroom.

Meet Buzz Lightyear…Buzz for short. If you can’t tell by the name choice we have an almost 3 year old.
He’s our mouse guy. On the hunt for a little treat. Buzz was found a few roads away from us as a stray so we welcomed him with open arms.

Last week we brought home beaker the bird on the left. She has a genetic deft that has resulted in cross beak same as Karen/Ken that I hatched out this year. When a bird has cross beak they are unable to eat or drink like a normal chicken. Everyday day a few times a day I go out and help them eat and drink. I’ll be sharing more updates about them as they grow.

This past week has been extremely busy to say the least. Stay tuned for some exciting updates this week.

Here’s a picture of one of our turkeys we got earlier this year really learning how to strut his stuff! In 10 days we will be having our first set of turkey eggs hatch. 🦃
