Showers and thunderstorms continue to move east into north Texas. The forcasted BIG storms have weakened below severe levels….but at least they will still bring rain to nearly half of the area tonight.

Warm and humid air has moved into north Texas with temperatures mostly in the 70s along with a few 80s, but a cold front is on the way and will drop temperatures 15 to 20 degrees for tomorrow along with much drier air and a strong north wind.

Although the atmosphere is moderately unstable this evening, and there is considerable amount of spin to cause rotation in any thunderstorm that forms along the front, the atmosphere as a whole is SINKING and this will greatly limit the number of storms that will be able to form in the immediate DFW area.

With that in mind, I think it is wise to INCREASE the area that will see NOTHING with this cold front. Yesterday's prediction was for 60% of the Metroplex to see nothing; that may need to be bumped up to 75%, with the bulk - but not all - of the activity occurring to the east of I-35E.

There is a marginal severe weather threat with any storm that is able to overcome the sinking air, especially in east Texas where this effect is not nearly as strong.

What to expect tomorrow.

It is going to be a warm and windy and sticky Sunday afternoon with highs in the 80s and 90s and a gusty southerly wind pumping in abundant Gulf humidity in advance of a cold front that will bring a round of showers and thunderstorms Sunday night.

Some of the storms could be marginally severe with pocket change hail and downburst winds. Storms are not expected in the DFW area until after sunset.

Cooler and MUCH DRIER air will settle in for Monday.
