Throwback Thursday: The Beginning of LifePath Systems

This April 1986 clipping from The Allen American captures an important moment in our history.

At the time, local leaders were discussing how Collin County would continue providing mental health and intellectual and developmental disability services after the planned dissolution of the North Central Texas MHMR facility later that year. The concern was clear: people in Collin County needed access to care close to home, without gaps in service.

That work helped lead to the creation of the Collin County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center. The original name reflected the terminology used by state systems at the time. Years later, in keeping with changing language around intellectual and developmental disabilities, the organization began doing business as LifePath Systems.

As we celebrate 40 years, we are looking back at the decisions, partnerships, and community needs that shaped who we are today.
