Monarch Butterfly migration is such an amazing thing to witness. I usually go right before sunset and watch as dozens of Monarch Butterflies float by and land in the trees to roost together. This year was my first time going at sunrise and I am so happy I did! When I arrived and it was still very cool and foggy. The butterflies were roosting together in the trees. Once the sun started to dry the dew off of their wings, they began to warm up and flew away one by one.

Monarch butterflies roost to conserve energy. There is a theory that Monarch butterflies roost together in large clumps to protect themselves from predators. They are fascinating!

Walnut and a very fierce looking Willow! Both of these were taken in my backyard! Stay tuned for pics of their adorable owlets! Both successfully fledged and have learned to fly and hunt!
