This year and the years to come are the years of the less-earning or non-earning spouse! The new tax law will affect those getting divorced after December 31st 2018 - meaning, your divorce will be signed after December 31st, 2018.

No longer will the payor spouse (the one paying alimony) be allowed to deduct the amount paid for tax purposes. He/she will be taxed on the full amount of his/her income, and the payee spouse, who is receiving alimony, will not be taxed on the alimony that they receive.

I wanted to post this because a lot of people are afraid to leave their spouse because they're not the one who makes the money.
