Anyone else?! 🥹  Mentally, we’re still cycling through Leiden.

Mornings in Leiden start with cyclists streaming past canals, students heading to class, and shopkeepers opening up along narrow little streets.

You see commuters, school runs, and ordinary trips to the pharmacy, all set with a backdrop of old streets, bridges, and water 🚲

That’s why we love Leiden. It has an easy-going, neighborhood feel, so you can comfortably navigate it on foot or by bike. One minute you’re following a canal, the next you’re passing the country’s oldest university, popping into a museum, or passing through the gates of a famous botanical garden.

And when you feel like going farther, the train makes it easy. Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft, Rotterdam, and Utrecht are all close enough for a day trip 🚆

We only base our UnTours in places that are extra special. We focus on stays in less obvious locations where locals actually live, so you can experience day-to-day life, while still having easy access to the cities you’ve always wanted to see.

This helps you build a meaningful connection to the places you visit, one that lasts well beyond the trip đź’š

Have you returned to the same UnTours destination again and again? Where and why?

You know that daydream where you have a stone house in Tuscany, spend your mornings wandering market towns, your afternoons lingering over long vineyard lunches, and your evenings watching the sun set over olive groves with a glass of local wine?

The one where life moves a little slower, the food is better, and someone local is always there to point you toward the best restaurant, explain a custom, or help when you need it.

That’s basically the idea of an UnTour.

Rather than moving from hotel to hotel or following a packed itinerary, an UnTour gives you a home base in a local community for a week or more. You settle into a farmhouse, villa, or apartment and experience the rhythms of everyday life at your own pace.

We take care of the details that make it easy to arrive and feel at home from the start. We arrange your rental car, stock your refrigerator with essentials before you arrive, and provide an in-person orientation that helps you get your bearings, understand the area, and discover the places locals love.

To help ease you into the Tuscan way of life, every UnTour includes a special wine tasting at a nearby vineyard. It’s an opportunity to meet local winemakers, learn about the region, and begin your stay with one of Tuscany’s greatest pleasures.

Throughout your week, your local host remains a trusted resource, ready with restaurant recommendations, suggestions for hidden villages and markets, help navigating local customs, or advice on how to spend the perfect afternoon.

So if you’ve ever imagined what it might feel like to live in Tuscany rather than simply tour it, why not try it for yourself?

đź’š Double tap if you could see yourself here!

If you've traveled with us, this one is for you!

Fifty years ago, Hal Taussig had a simple idea: what if travel felt less like passing by and more like truly experiencing a place? You're the proof that it works.

We’re inviting past and current UnTourists to share a favorite photo from their travels with us, along with the memory behind it. The moments you didn’t plan, the connections you still talk about, the places that stayed with you long after you returned home.

Have a great story to share? Enter here 👉 https://forms.gle/nzQQaP4L9RfL1iSq5

Contest closes September 21. $500 in travel credit for first place.

London tip: don’t just ride the Tube. Ride the river 🚤

Most people know London’s transport system means the Tube, red buses, the Overground, maybe the tram. But commuter boats?

A lot of people don’t know about those!

The Thames Clipper, also called Uber Boat, is part of London’s wider transport network. People do use it to commute along the river corridor, but it’s also one of the more scenic ways to cross the city.

One of our favorite London UnTour outings is taking it east toward Greenwich.

You tap in much like you would on the rest of London’s transport system, then suddenly your commute includes Tower Bridge, old docklands, glassy skyscrapers, and river views instead of tunnel walls. Not a bad trade, if you ask us!

Hop off in Greenwich and spend the day wandering the Royal Observatory, admiring the Painted Hall, browsing the market, or simply sitting beside the Thames with a coffee watching the boats come and go.

That’s one of the things we love about London. Even getting from A to B can turn into part of the experience.

Did you know London had commuter boats? 👇
