Here’s a phrase you probably use every morning without realizing it’s military slang: “Cup of Joe.”

Back in 1914, after Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels banned alcohol aboard ships, coffee became the strongest drink at sea. Sailors started calling it a cup of Joe — and the name stuck.

Now you know the Terms of Engagement.
