The Heat Is On: Summer Safety Tips For Pet Parents
As the calendar edges closer to summer months, more pets and pet owners will be spending increased amounts of time outdoors. Petparentusa.com has compiled numerous links that veterinarians and health care specialists can email to their pet-owning clients. Pet identification, increased hydration, insects, encounters with wildlife, and the danger of leaving unattended pets in hot cars, even briefly, are among the important summer considerations. Don’t forget our three-part mantra that plays right into increased summer safety and health tips for pets: license your pet, microchip your pet, and register your pet.

More Municipalities Move To Require Mandatory Pet Microchipping

There’s a growing trend among municipalities regarding pet ownership and responsibilities. Increasingly, towns, cities, and counties are adopting policies that require not only pet owners to license their pets, but also to microchip them.
These local ordinances are designed to improve pet identification, successfully reunite lost pets with their owners, and ultimately reduce the strain on the resources of overcrowded animal shelters and animal services operations.
Among the latest cities to adopt mandatory pet microchipping are Evansville, Indiana, Austin, Texas, Clark County, Nevada, and Las Vegas, Nevada. These links provide the respective specifics of the newly adopted microchipping requirements:

Peeva.com offers a comprehensive overview of microchip laws, explaining how they function.
Pet microchip regulations currently vary greatly from state to state, and some local ordinances are even in conflict with state laws.
Perparentusa.com, long an advocate of licensing, microchipping, and pet database registration, encourages dog and cat owners to check with their local municipalities and counties to ensure they are currently in compliance with both pet licensing laws and the trend of mandatory pet microchipping requirements.
