Did you know that March is Self-Harm Awareness Month? While self-harm is not usually a direct attempt at su***de, it can elevate the risk due to the emotional turmoil that leads to self-injury. The habit of inflicting harm during distress can increase the chances of suicidal thoughts.

If you or someone you know has inflicted serious injuries or is in life-threatening danger, please call 911. If you are considering su***de, please call 911 as well.

In other situations, consider these options:

1. Reach out to your mental health professional if you’re currently seeing one. If not, don’t hesitate to ask for help.

2. Seek assistance from a school nurse, counselor, teacher, doctor, or any healthcare provider.

3. Confide in a trusted friend or family member.

4. Contact a spiritual leader or someone from your faith community for support.
