From An older member to the next generation(copied from the IA page)

After a conversation the other night with a young Union brother... I posted the following on my personal status. "To the young people out there: Please understand, we know your hunger. We felt it too. You see us as middle age, weak, overweight and limping. You weren't there when we were in our prime. You weren't there when we could lift and carry, before we abused our bodies because we were short handed and didn't have work rules to protect us. Our joints are shot. We fought for the meager benefits we have. It is our gift to you because you did nothing to get them. You made no sacrifices, you did not spend years of your life battling for them. So the next time, you want to roll your eyes at us and say that we should stand aside because we are getting more of the "gravy train" and you don't think it is fair... close your mouths and open your eyes. You might actually learn something from us. Sooner than you think, you will inherit this world and you will find yourselves looking over your shoulder at the next generation... and hopefully you will have continued to improve the world. Maybe then you will understand what a gift was given you

Today we honor the hard-fought struggles of the generations before us and celebrate the progress we've made standing on their shoulders!
