Today's Binghampton Woman Who Inspires is Mary Abram!

Meet Mary!

Mary Abram has called Binghampton home for the past 18 years, where she lives, serves, and loves her neighbors well. As the wife of Pastor Shun Abram and a leader at Binghampton Community Church, she has spent nearly two decades pouring into the community through compassion ministries and everyday acts of care. Mary also serves as the Operations Coordinator at the Send Relief Memphis Ministry Center, helping support and strengthen outreach efforts across the city. She and her husband are raising four wonderful children—Mikayla, Isaac, Grace, and David—and are deeply rooted in the life and future of their neighborhood.

Today's Binghampton Woman Who Inspires is Sharon Smith!

Meet Sharon!

Sharon is the Executive Director of New Dawn Social Services (NDSS). NDSS is a faith based organization that focuses on men and women being released from penal facilities, and individuals being released from rehabilitation centers. We aim to improve outcomes associated with the transition into the community and remove barriers that make this process appear insurmountable.

New Dawn was inspired by Dr. Mary L. Avery, Sharon's mother. Her passion was for women in prison in the late 90s. The dream was recaptured in 2017 with Sharon's mom, sister and husband, Wesley, to include women and men RECOVERING from substance use, disorders and/or justice involved. Sharon's husband celebrated 35 years of sobriety on March 18th. Mary’s Place and Smitty’s House were named after her mom and father-in-law. Her brother was in his addiction for over 30 years. He celebrated 11 years sober in October. If a program like New Dawn had been in place back then, she believes he would have come out of his addiction earlier.
