Mike Merolli For Mendon Select Board

Just so there is no confusion, my family will be voting for Alejna Brugos next Tuesday, May 17, for Select Board! I have worked with Alejna in Mendon Town Government for years! She is the experienced one our Town needs!

It was 23 years ago today that my husband and I first became Mendon homeowners. We’d been living in the Metro West area after moving up from Providence, where we’d met in college. I’d moved around a lot in my life before then, starting in California. I’d lived in big cities and small towns--including a small town in the Colorado mountains that makes Mendon look big! We had been looking to buy a house within reasonable commuting of Boston, and were drawn to Mendon by its small-town charm and rural beauty. Quite honestly, it was Mendon’s trees that lured me. Once we settled in and our family and connections grew, I discovered that Mendon was where I’d started to put down my own roots. I’ve now lived here far longer than I’ve lived anywhere else.

I feel very fortunate to live in a place with incredible schools and a committed community, in addition to the beauty and charms that Mendon offers. I’ve been busy with a lot of things in my life since moving to Mendon, including attending graduate school at BU, raising two children, and working as a researcher and adjunct professor. Living in Mendon has been a gift to my life, and I want to keep giving back to Mendon. I’ve already been involved with volunteering with the town, including the Tax Aid Committee since 2015 and the Solarize Mendon-Upton program in 2020 and 2021, as well as regularly showing up for many other school and community projects. (I’ll write a bit about some of this work in a future post.) For today, though, I’m going to celebrate my 23 years of life in Mendon by saying “thank you” to this wonderful town.
