While there are a lot of places on the Cape where you can go to hear live music, it might surprise you to know there are almost no places that encourage bands to play original music. In order to change that, two local performers are teaming up with Timber Axe & Bowl in Falmouth to roll out a new opportunity to promote original music performances. Called The Music Alley, the initiative is being spearheaded by two local performers, Kim Bilderback of the band B-Side Cape Cod, and Scott Puopolo of The Bandits. Once a month, Timber will host a Music Alley event that will feature three bands, each of which will play a 45-minute set. At least 50% of that set must feature original music. Local musician Dan Lawson is among those who is extremely excited by the new initiative. “Although there are places where solo singers can go to sing original music, most entertainment venues want bands to focus on cover songs. There is a desperate need for a place where Cape Cod bands can go to showcase their original music.” Bands who want to participate in The Music Alley series need to contact Kim Bilderback, who along with Scott Puopolo, will evaluate a band’s original music repertoire before assigning them a performance date.
