Today, a student came to class visibly upset. The parent was a bit upset too. The parent explained their side and after they left, I pulled some of our emotional tools to help the student process their feelings too.
After describing all the emotions, the student picked these.
I explained that Mr. Scribble feels all the emotions at once and he can't explain it. Mr. Red on the other hand is mad on the inside. He feels like he is going to crash out even if he looks calm on the outside.
After a few minutes, he was given a bouncy ball to finish stimming. He bounced and talked his feelings away.
Here is what he said:
1. I feel like im treated like a person who got out of prison and they are looking for me
2. I feel like everywhere I go, I am always in trouble
3. Wants everything to be normal
4. Had reached his too about hearing his mom will be called and emailed.
5. Wants more respect from teachers
6. Want teachers to focus more on his work than his behavior
7. The things they take from him don't matter to him. It doesn't feel like a consequence.
8. Need to be able to chew gum
He said all this in 25 minutes. He left tutoring smiling and happy again. Sometimes our kids have big emotions and have no way to process them.
He is a neurodivergent kiddo and learning to be in tune with his emotions.
We focus on your whole child, not just academics!

Can you believe it?! She is going to college!!!! We can still remember in 6th grade she did not like school and hated math. We worked hard, danced to Disney songs and to say I'm proud is an understatement!
Destiny,
I'm so proud of you and the young woman you've become. I call every so often to check in, and I shed a tear every time I hear about your straight A's! I've always believed in you and I am glad to see you succeed. May God continue to bless and protect you. May He grant the desires of your heart!
Do you remember me saying "I believe in you. Do you?"
It paid off!
Congratulations 🎊
