With the Tesla finally inside the shop, the next step was hooking it up to Tesla Toolbox, Tesla’s diagnostic software, to see exactly what we were dealing with and confirm whether the high-voltage battery pack had truly failed.

The first scan pulled over 40 fault codes, with most of them pointing directly to battery pack issues. The rest, at that point, appeared to be caused by the high-voltage system being disabled.

After running several tests on the HV battery, I confirmed the pack was indeed bad. I then got the car up on the lift and removed the high-voltage battery from underneath the vehicle’s floor. That process took about an hour. Once the pack was out, I opened it up to inspect it further and determine how many battery bricks had failed.

Using the TM-Spy/TMBB tool created by Kevin Lieberman, I discovered that 7 out of the 14 bricks were faulty.
