Today marks Juneteenth, when two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, Black people in the South were freed from enslavement.
However, following this day Black people continued to face discrimination and subjugation, including financial inequity.
As we remember the past oppression faced in our county and celebrate freedom that was granted, we must also recognize the injustices that people of color continue to experience in the present day.
