Healthcare needs help

With roots in the civil rights movement and the War on Poverty, America’s health centers were founded with the mission of building a stronger country by improving the quality of life for communities across the United States.

Roughly 50 years later, health centers have treated over 25 million patients and are quickly becoming the primary care provider for countless more Americans.

But 20 percent of people still live inPrimary Care Deserts — neighborhoods absent of the universal basic services any community needs to thrive. And a national physician shortage makes it nearly impossible to catch up.

It’s an opportunity to solve problems in new ways — to make technology work for us, rather than against us.

Healthcare is complicated, but good health doesn’t have to be.

Developed in partnership with Livingston Community Health, one of the oldest and largest health centers in Central California, and a group of UC Merced and Stanford Researchers, the Primary Care Research Institute was founded to transform the delivery of care through research, technology, education, and innovation.

Currently there are dozens of projects being conducted at the Institute focused on a range of issues in primary care including health disparities, care coordination, chronic disease, diabetes, dental care access, and cancer screening.

Healthcare, not sick care

Efforts are focused on projects that leverage technology to improve care delivery, including Microclinic, an open-sourced population health tool and digital care platform that connects patients to primary care services and specialists using artificial intelligence.

Our vision is to make the healthy option the easy option for every community.
