🍩✨Happy !

The Salvation Army has been doing good with donuts since 1917 when volunteers nicknamed "donut lassies" made donuts for soldiers on the frontlines of WWI.

❤️ Now, The Salvation Army brings donuts to veterans and seniors, uses donuts to raise money for essential social services and holds events honoring the donut lassies every Donut Day!

🌱 Behind a wooden fence and just yards from the rush of the 710 freeway in Bell, California, rows of flourishing vegetables, fruit trees and the chatter of chickens create an unexpected sense of calm at the GrowGood garden across from The Salvation Army Bell Shelter.

The half-acre urban farm grows more than 40 varieties of produce, with greenhouses, irrigation systems and raised garden beds spread throughout the space. 🌷

“You just feel calm when you’re here,” said GrowGood trainee Nathan Ives.

☝️In The Salvation Army, leadership rests primarily with its officers—commissioned leaders who serve as pastors and administrators.

It’s a special calling that begins at the corps, or congregation, level, where future leaders are identified and formed long before anyone enters the College for Officer Training (CFOT). ❤️

“We’re just praying that God would provide the right people,” said Western Territorial Candidates’ Secretary Major Jennifer Masango. “We don’t want just anyone. We need people who are called by God.”
