The Hothead Story

My name is Mark Ambrose, the founder of Hothead Headliners. I have been working in the upholstery business most of my life, ever since my dad taught me the trade when I was still a teenager.

In 2009, I was working as an upholsterer for a high-end, car restoration shop when my wife's brother, Dan approached me with a kind of funny complaint. Dan told me that with his hair now thinning, he noticed his head was getting hot while riding in his Jeep. Knowing that I was an upholsterer, Dan asked if I could fabricate an aftermarket headliner for his Jeep Wrangler hard top and the rest is history.

I created the first prototype a month later and my brother, Brad actually came up with the name. Hothead Headliners was very obvious to him after I explained the problem we were trying to solve.

Since there weren't any good alternatives on the market, I thought I had a pretty decent idea that could solve a lot of pain points many Jeep owners have with temperature and road noise. I posted on the JK Forum and received a lot of interest, so I started making headliners in my single car garage. I officially launched our website in August of 2009 and within six months, I was able to transition to Hothead Headliners full-time.

Over the past 10 years, we have been made several improvements to our headliners and continue to work on new features and products to make your Jeep experience even better.
