Onyx is a playful, goofball that is very smart and affectionate. He does well with other dogs and could live with another dog that matches his energy. Onyx would do best with respectful children 16+. He would love to show you how smart he is and how much he can learn with some positive reinforcement,

Here is what shelter staff and volunteers have to say about Onyx:
Onyx is our BIG boy. He is the only male of the bunch and boy oh boy it is almost impossible to not love him. Weighing just under 130lbs he truly lives up to the term gentle giant. He is incredibly playful, he loves toys, he loves to play in the water from the hose outside, and he is extremely affectionate. Onyx has a BIG bark but it is simply that— just a bark. No aggression has been shown since his arrival at our shelter. He may seem like he’s worked up while he’s inside of the kennel, but he will calm down and stop with just minor corrective commands being given. He listens to commands although he can be stubborn sometimes, he is extremely food motivated, and he genuinely has the personality of a giant puppy. He has a whole lot of jowls which means he also has a whole lot of drool and it is the funniest thing. Onyx is derpy and goofy and does not realize how big he actually is. All he wants is to be pressed up against you getting all of the love and attention he possibly can. He is the biggest squish of a teddy bear and I won’t act like I’m not obsessed with him.

Today we'd like to honor a very special girl, Emma. ❤️

Emma was loved from the time she was a puppy and spent 10 wonderful years by her family's side. Like so many bully breeds, she left paw prints not only on the floor but also on the hearts of everyone who knew her.

Recently, Emma's mom, Misty, reached out to donate Emma's belongings to the dogs in our rescue. In the midst of grief, she chose to help dogs she has never met—a beautiful act of kindness that perfectly reflects the love Emma inspired throughout her life.

Emma's beds, blankets, food, and other treasured items will now bring comfort, warmth, and happiness to dogs waiting for their own forever families.

Misty, thank you for sharing beautiful Emma with us and for allowing her memory to make a difference for dogs in need.

Nolan is adopted!

A big thank you to Cindy and family for adopting Nolan. Cindy writes, "We got him home and he's been settled in. He is doing great with the other dogs very gentle and loving a bit of a bed hog! LOL does sleep downstairs with my daughter or wherever he chooses. He seems to be blending in quite nicely and he's absolutely in love with our daughter. I'll give her love nibbles on her chin. We end up changing his name from Nolan to Sunny. He just seems like a very happy boy and full of sunshine."

DIVA IS ADOPTED!

A big congratulations to BBBR Volunteer Katie for adopting Diva!

Katie writes, "Welcome home, sweet Diva girl! Diva has been with us for about a month now and we can’t imagine life without her. Diva is a such a gem. She is so respectful of her elderly St Bernard brother, Hank. He taught her how to use the doggy door and now she confidently uses it to get outside and ensure the squirrels stay out of the garden. If she’s not lounging in her bed by the fireplace, she doing her best imitation of a rotisserie chicken on the deck— rotating side to side while roasting in the sun. We love doing long morning and evening walks by the canal and the river. Diva doesn’t like to swim yet, but she loves to wade and splash around in the shallows. She completely ignores the ducks, but the bench bunnies are a little too tempting sometimes— we’re working on it! We’re building up to some more adventures like backpacking and riding in the bike trailer— wave if you see us cruising by on the greenbelt!

The training she received at PAWS is the most incredible foundation to work from and we’re so grateful for that program and for everyone at the rescue who loved this special girl until she found her way to us. We feel so lucky to be able to love her and give her a forever home."

A most special thank you to Beaumont volunteer Cameron who was Diva's true guardian angel. Diva was adopted from Beaumont some time before and then dumped out on a rural property with two puppies. Cameron worked with the homeowner to facilitate Diva's transfer to BBBR to avoid the uncertainty of going back to the high kill shelter. Thank you Cameron for all the love you show these dogs!
