Occasionally when I am shopping with my children and they want to buy something, I give them a challenge. If they are able to add up my purchase and come within $2 of the actual cost, they will be rewarded. All their addition must be done by hand. They think they are winning a prize, but I know they are practicing math.

Helping your child master math does not only apply to homework. The next time you have a family game night, chose a game that will require some opportuities for math.
