Łikłgaawksa Dip 'Nüüsm

New Collection Coming to Juneau and Online Orders!

Every piece from Łikłgaawksa Dip 'Nüüsm, We Are Sisters - including each earring in an asymmetrical pair - is a continuation of the unbroken Sisters pattern from the Ravenstail ensemble Gisma̱xsa G̱a̱tgyedm Na Sigidmhanaa'na̱gm, Our Matriarchs Endow Our Strength, which debuted at the Center for Craft's exhibit Archives in Practice.

Our Matriarchs Endow Our Strength, and its continuation through the We Are Sisters collection, is a record of the strength that comes from women, femme, and non-gender conforming folks giving and receiving support in connection with each other.

After nearly five years of vision, revision, dreaming and plans, the first pair of earrings in the collection was hand twined on my couch in O'odham and Piipaash traditional lands while I recovered from a broken ankle and subsequent surgery with support from many sisters.

May all who wear We Are Sisters continue receiving and giving unbroken support.

I am healing. We are healing. You can heal with us.
My academic success reflects both personal determination and extensive community support. I was raised in a family that highly praised education. My grandmother, who was removed from her home for boarding school after eighth grade, ensured that each of her grandchildren felt and understood the positive influence of academic achievement on our lives. My parents showed us how important college education is by completing first-generation degrees while I was in elementary school. I was raised with the question of where I would go to college rather than whether I would go.

While my return to academic studies after lengthy gaps and the subsequent slow progress in my educational history represent times of great personal strength and dedication, my greatest strengths have come from community support at UAS, with Alaska Native learners, and especially from Jeannette Rankin Foundation. My instructors, advisers, classmates, supervisors, coworkers, and all of you exercised patience and care that helped me witness and strengthen my own capacity to succeed. Sm t'oyaxst 'nuusm, I am truly bound to all of you.
