The Sidehall Design: Introduced primarily after the 1803 Louisiana Purchase, American-style townhouses differed from earlier Creole designs by placing the entrance hallway along one side of the layout rather than directly into the main living rooms.
Greek Key Entryway: The prominent, squared trim around the front door draws heavily from the Greek Revival architectural trend that dominated America between 1830 and 1860.
Ironwork Transition: The lacy, elaborate cast iron galleries seen on the upper floor became a signature of the French Quarter Vieux Carré after the 1830s.
Prior to this era, expensive handcrafted wrought iron was hammered by blacksmiths.
The introduction of industrial cast iron foundries allowed intricate, matching patterns to be molded quickly and cheaply.
Ventilation Roundels: The two distinct circular openings at the brick base of the house are traditional foundational vents designed to prevent humidity, moisture, and wood rot from accumulating beneath the raised flooring.
