This is the traditional gua sha I grew up with—it’s ancient Chinese treatment, and yes, I know it’s gotten popular lately in the beauty world, but this is the gua sha I know!

It may look a little intense, but I promise it doesn’t hurt and the relief is instant. It’s incredible for easing a myriad of physical discomforts — back pain, headaches, digestive issues, neck and shoulder tension from stress, seasonal colds, and almost all types of body pains and aches — to name a few.

Usually, someone else does it for you, but since I don’t have anyone nearby who knows how, I’ve been doing it myself for years. Every few months, or whenever I’m feeling extra stressed or like I’m coming down with something, gua sha makes me feel totally reset.

Honestly, I’ve been hesitant to share this since it can look kind of intimidating, but this practice means a lot to me. It reminds me of my aunt—the amazing woman who raised me and taught me how to do this as a kid. Sharing this feels like a small way to honor her and my roots.🫶🏼

UPDATE:

When I first shared this gua sha video, I intended to simply show you my routine, something I’ve practiced for years. However, the overwhelming interest and questions from many of you made me realize the need for more insight. Although I’ve been doing this since I was ten, I’m not a professional and don’t have the expertise to offer medical advice. Given the amount of confusion in the comments, I will be consulting with a Traditional Chinese Medicine expert in a few weeks. I’ll share my experience and have her address all your questions and concerns.
I can’t wait to share with you!

UPDATE 2.0:

Please watch the next two videos featuring doctors who provide a deeper explanation of gua sha!

Happy new year!! What an incredible year. I got to travel to more countries this year than I’ve been to in my life and had job opportunities I couldn’t dare to dream of. I met so many inspiring people who’ve shared knowledge and wisdom that expanded my perspective on life. Despite our differences, I’ve become closer to my family than I’ve ever been and I can’t even explain how much joy that brings. And.. I found the person I can be my truest self with, someone I want to spend the rest of my life loving.

Thank you for the best year of my life.

I don’t know how this year can possibly top 2022, but I hope you are ready to claim 2023 as the greatest year yet to come! — mentally, physically, financially, and spiritually 🤍
