October 1st is National Kale Day and I just happened to harvest the prettiest hydroponic grown colors for dinner 😋
Scarlet & Lacinato Varieties (Brassica oleracea)
Some varieties of Kale are known to withstand warmer weather better than others, though flavor may still be best with cooler temperatures. Growing Kale above 80 degrees Fahrenheit can result in a bitter and unpleasant taste.
Lacinato (Dinosaur) Kale: This Italian heirloom is known for its ability to tolerate both cold and heat.
Scarlet Kale: While it can grow in heat, it may bolt (go to seed) in warmer conditions. The cooler the temperature, the more intense the color.
