Rodez Art
George Rodez was born in Manhattan, New York on March 20, 1957. And although he enjoys traveling around the world, he is proud to call Miami, Florida his home.
Some works begin with a planned image. Others reveal themselves along the way.
Like all the works in my Elements & Values series, "The Cat, the Cradle, and the Silver Spoon" was created by allowing the images I saw emerging within the paint to guide me.
Only afterward did I begin to interpret what those images might represent. What I saw was deeply personal—a reflection of my complicated relationship with my father, the absence and distance that marked much of our lives, and the connection we were finally able to rebuild during his later years.
In this reel, I share the story the painting revealed to me. It is my interpretation, shaped by my own life and experiences. Others may look at the same work and discover an entirely different story—and that is part of the beauty of art.
The original painting has been sold. Featured in this reel is a limited-edition giclée on canvas.

Today would have been my mother's 97th birthday.
I dedicate Goddess of the Wind and Sparrow to her memory.
In life, she faced challenges that shaped both her journey and mine. Today, I imagine her beyond those earthly limitations—transformed into a spirit of grace, strength, and quiet confidence.
This is my tribute to the woman who gave me life and whose story continues to influence my own.
Happy Birthday, Mom.
Some works of art find their true identity along the way.
La Musa began as my tribute to the cherished Hispanic tradition of the quinceañera. But after I had the privilege of meeting Eresa Eijo Vega Martínez—affectionately known as "La Musa"—the painting evolved into something much more.
Although this is not her portrait, Eresa gave the work its heart. Her grace, story, and unforgettable presence inspired the painting's central figure, while details from her appearance on the famed Bacardí float during the 1956 Havana Carnival—including the number 5 she proudly wore—became woven into the composition.
What began as a celebration of a cultural tradition became a tribute to an extraordinary woman whose legacy continues to inspire.

I'm honored to have been selected as one of the featured artists in the Immigrants & the Arts initiative.
As someone whose journey began in New York, continued through Cuba, and ultimately led to Miami, this recognition is especially meaningful. My life between cultures has shaped not only who I am, but also the stories I choose to tell through my art.
The feature highlights La Terraza de Abuelo, a painting inspired by one of my earliest memories of my grandparents' home in Cuba—a place that continues to live in my memory and inspire my work decades later.
My sincere thanks to the Green Family Foundation, Americans for Immigrant Justice, and Florida International University's Public Humanities Lab for creating this initiative and for including my story alongside so many remarkable artists.

Thank you to everyone who has supported my artistic journey over the years. It means more than you know.

Every painting eventually leaves the studio and begins a life of its own.
This reel follows the journey of Essence in Motion from its final moments in the artist's hands to its destination beyond the easel.
Created as a special commission, the work was designed to reflect a life shaped by movement, leadership, responsibility, and continual transformation.
Some stories begin with paint. Others begin when the painting is finally placed into the hands it was created for.
The story continues.
