As we draw closer to our departure date for Zimbabwe, 🇿🇼 I find myself reflecting on the journey that BISCEP has taken over the years and the future of this work that means so much to so many young people.

I am incredibly proud to share that, through grassroots fundraising and the support of our community, BISCEP has raised more than $150,000 to provide international educational opportunities for students from Ledumang (2020), Miami Central (2022), and Westminster (2025)

Every dollar has come from people who believed that our youth deserve the opportunity to see the world, experience new cultures, and broaden their understanding of who they are and what they can become.

At the same time, the reality is that the landscape has changed. Budget cuts, reductions in DEI initiatives, and the loss of funding sources that once helped support programs like ours have made it increasingly difficult to sustain this work. If BISCEP is to continue serving students for years to come, we must evolve.

Because of that, our 2026 students, will be the last group traveling abroad from a single school. This is not the end of BISCEP, it is the beginning of a new chapter. Our vision is to expand opportunities to students from multiple schools throughout Miami-Dade County and beyond, creating an even greater impact in the years ahead.

Today, however, our focus is on the students preparing to depart in just a few weeks. We have committed to this journey. Airline deposits have been made. Hotel accommodations have been secured. Transportation and group reservations have been also made. These students have worked hard, their families have sacrificed, and our community has invested in this dream.

We cannot turn back. We can only move forward.
With more than 6,100 people connected to me on this page, I am asking our community to come together one more time for these young people.
